Organizational Assessments  [back to top]

assessmentsOften, people describe organizational culture as, "what it's like to work here." I like to go a step further and define the organizational culture as "how does the organization THINK and FEEL?" My passion is to assist people and organizations gain greater insights into how they prefer to think, make decisions and communicate. With this understanding, people and organizations are enabled to harness the power of their thinking and feeling for improved productivity, creativity & fulfillment.

Is the culture of the organization working for your organization or against it?

While you may have a 'gut' feeling or reaction to the question above, why not get some valid and reliable data to back it up? I use several different methodologies (online assessments to focus groups) to assess what are the thinking preferences not only at an organizational level, but on a team and individual level as well. I partner with organizations and all assessments are closely tied to your strategy, vision and values and will be customized to meet your needs.

Organizational Vital Signs (OVS) Climate Survey

The Organizational Vital Signs (OVS) is an easy-to-use tool for quickly measuring and improving the organizational climate. The 15-minute online survey instantly shows “hot spots” in the organizational culture that are blocking optimal success and key strengths to build upon. Less expensive and faster than most comparable tools, OVS provides an invaluable guide for leadership and organizational development.

The statistically reliable, normed assessment addresses five climate factors, plus an overlay dimension of Trust:

  • Accountability and Responsibility
  • Collaboration and Problem Solving
  • Perception of Leadership
  • Alignment to the Mission
  • Adaptability for Change

Organizational Culture Inventory (OCI)

The OCI is recognized as one of the most widely used and thoroughly researched organizational surveys in the world. The OCI provides a picture of an organization’s operating culture in terms of the behaviors that members believe are expected or implicitly required. By guiding the way in which members approach their work and interact with one another, these “behavioral norms” determine the organization’s capacity to solve problems, adapt to change, and perform effectively.  Often used with the OEI (see below).

Most Frequently Used for:

  • Validating the need for change on the part of organizational members
  • Planning and monitoring organizational development programs
  • Supporting programs designed to enhance member engagement, organizational learning, quality and reliability, and/or customer service
  • Facilitating mergers, acquisitions, and strategic alliances
  • Measuring culture for academic and research purposes

The OEI assesses outcomes at the individual, group and organizational levels and internal processes and systems that are causally related to these outcomes.  Often used in conjunction with the OCI (see above)

Most Frequently Used for:

  • Measuring the satisfaction and motivation of employees, coordination within and across units, departmental and organizational-level quality, and related dimensions of performance
  • Identifying systems, structures, technologies, and other “levers for change” to increase effectiveness at the individual, unit, and organizational levels
